Mya Doan

Intern - Research & Resource Development Team

🌏 Vietnamese-Chinese American 📍 Massachusetts 🎓 Boston University

Mya Doan is a freshman at Boston University majoring in Psychology, where she is part of both the Kilachand Honors College and the Pre-Med community.

Previously, she interned at the Social Capital Inc. Leaders for Everyone's Tomorrow Program, where she gained insight into how mental health challenges shape communities and how generational and cultural differences can lead to misunderstanding or disconnection.

As a second-generation immigrant, she's personally seen how mental health stigmas can silence important conversations and contribute to ancestral trauma within families. These experiences inspired her passion for advocacy and her goal of creating more open, empathetic spaces around mental health—especially for immigrant and minority communities.

At Boston University, she's continuing to build on this passion through her studies in psychology and pre-medicine, with the hope of becoming a psychiatrist who not only provides care but also promotes understanding and representation.

Ultimately, Mya aims to challenge cultural stigmas, bridge generational divides, and empower others to seek the help and healing they deserve.
